Anybody ever used a r2d tranny. How good are they? I have been looking at digs and ran across this and you can get one for $59.99 and then sell the stock Axial tranny and only have like 30 bucks in the setup and what looks like would be a better setup. What are the pros and cons to one?

hey

The bad things are;

Stock R2 gears are not that tough (the small gears are just pressed into an inteference fit hole)

The gear dig can only engage or lock in two possible positions

They are a little prone to being stuck in the locked position.

The good:

You can get better gears

They are small

They are affordable

What do you mean by it can only engage or lock in two possible positions? On there website it says: "This tranny offer 3 mode, 4 wheel drive, 2 wheel drive (disconnect only) and disconnect with break (lock rear tires), base on how far your sevo throws."

There also coming out with a new r2d version 2 tranny this week that has a enclosed dig delrin bushings and its supposed to have wider gears or something. It runs $79.99.

As the proppeller shaft turn it can only engage in two points in the rotation (0 degrees and 180 degrees), just like a Flathead Screw driver, unlike a Philips head that can engage in 4 possible positions.

Does that clear it up?

Ohhh I get it now. I thought you meant you could only have 4wd and dig, or 4wd and freewheel. That clears it up. Thanks.
