Well it shouldnt be long now, so.................

I have heard a couple things about the Sidewinder esc and I am semi familiar with the Mamba Max esc. I am wanting to know the pros & cons of each. BL motor compared to brushed, battery configuration, etc. I'm not sure what I'll be running just yet. Any sort of beneficial advice is appreciated.

I am not sure how the Castle stuff really works for the Crawling sport.

I have a Mamba Max and a 7700Kv brushless that I want to test in the crawler, but just don't think I will like it as much as my Rooster/55t combo.

I don't see the need for tons of speed and power... If the ESC/Motor can make the rig do a flip when one wheel gets bound and locked in a crevous... well I don't think you need more power. The Crawler/Goat combo would be the only logical upgrade in my opinion for the brushless route... but I am a Novak fan... always have been.

I want to try the Mamba Max and the 55t together as well... That might make a decent combo!...

I just don't really know, but will be trying some things in the future with different combos of what I have.

Good Post though... hope other chime in with there opinions!

I like Novak quite a bit too. From day one I was on board with Big Orange.

The Novak HV-Maxx 6.5 & 4.5 take quite the beatdown on other forums when compared to almost every other BL system. Screw'em, I know what I like.

I'm interested to hear what the masses have to say on the esc debate as well. :thumb:

Well Doug, you know I'm a Castle Creations fan. The main difference between the Mamba Max and the Sidewinder is the amperage capacity. The MM is rated at 100a and the SW is rated at 70a. The other difference is that the SW has no direct data port, you have to use the same usb adaptor as for the Mamba25. For a crawler (or even a 2wd offroad stadium truck) 70a is MORE than enough for brushed or brushless operation. In my opinion, the SW offers a lot more versitility, you can run brushed, brushless, in a crawler or fast mover. Just put it where you need it then just plug it into your computer and program it to match the application. No buttons, no blinks to count, no wondering if you got it right, the configuration is right there on your computer screen. Nice and simple for a goof like me.

I'm running a SW and an Integy 60T lathe motor. It's buttery smooth, I love it and after Tom drove my set up he went to Rock Hill, bought a SW and put his Rooster up for sale. You'll get to drive it today and check it out for yourself.

As far as batteries, I'm sold on the ease of use, size and the price of (8)cell 1500mah NimH 2/3a saddle packs on the front axle. I get an hour a pack and I can easily carry two or three in my pockets.

Just my humble crawler noob opinion....:thumb:

X2 I have the SW also and you couldnt talk me into anything else, The Castle link work on the CCBEC also allowing you to change the voltage.

As for it allowing to much power, well if you cant handle it....

I have ran my SW with a Integ V10 55t, and moved up to a Holmes Cobalt 10t puller.

I am the one Silas talks about getting hung and torqueing over but its the motor not the ESC, i just found yesterday that the Alum wheel hex was spun in one of the plastic wheels , guess its time for alum wheels.;)

I'm running a MM and Holmes Cobalt puller 10t, It is the smoothest setup I've tried. MM + 7700 = Trouble!!!!! I ran the MM + 65T with a 3cell and it was nice as well. The only reason I have a MM and not a SW is I had the MM in a Touring car. For a crawler looking between the two, money is the big difference.

I run the Mamba Max, but having seen/programed/driven both, I would go with the SideWinder. IMO, I don't feel that the Mamba is worth the extra coin.

The SW has all the tunable features at a lower price.

Well right now I'm seriously considering the using the MambaMax esc with a Crawlmaster motor. That's if I can freakin find the motor in stock. :monkeyeye:

The lowest I have found the MM esc is $115. :thumb:

Not making this easy huh Tom? :bash:

Ok, here's the scenario. It's your birthday, money's not an issue, I have 2 Castle Creation ESC's to give away. SW & a MM of course. You can only have one. Which one do you want? :monkeyeye:

SideWinder getting warmer Shane? Guess they havnt been out long enough to consider running hot in August. Something to consider though.

Here's an excerpt from the auction:

THIS IS A NEW MAMBA MAX ESC. I BOUGHT IT A COUPLE OF DAYS AGO FROM TOWER HOBBIES, IT'S NOT WHAT I NEED BUT I CAN'T SEND IT BACK BECAUSE I ALREADY INSTALLED A DEANS ULTRA CONNECTOR. SO EBAY IT IS, ENJOY.

Q: Will this item include the software and usb cable for programming and etc. What all exactly will come with it? Apr-07-08
A: Comes with Everything, software and usb cable manual. It's new I just don't need it.

OK. I have read the thread and I want to know what is the advantage to running either of these esc's? I've got the rooster crawler and I love it beacuse of the instant reverse and the drag brake. Do the other two have that? Just wondering, I don't know anybody currently using either. Truggies has a SW but it's up for sale, said it has a lot of radio noise. Just curious.

Yes it's kinda loud but, i have complete control of Brake amount, reverse amount, punch, drag brake, and dead band...I can also change throttle curve and motor timings and can use it on a brushed or brushless motor. And there is always the uber cool part of linking to my computer and see exactly what i have:thumb:
