View Full Version : Question about the Comps
Silas

I am going to do a Poll here to see how folks feel about paying money for comps.
Choose the amount you see fit, if you have an opinion, then post it up.
What I am thinking is a total point winner take all kind of winnings, with a 2 dollar entry fee... I am going to step up and say 5 dollars would be the cut off.
Whats your take on this??

I think paying is fine, but lets spread it out across say 3 spots, with everything coming in going back out. Say entry to 3rd ans so on....

Biggest thing is dividing the money up... what would you do...
1st 50%
2nd 30%
3rd 20%
Then the question is having the change needed to make it even and such. Last thing I don't want to do is make this difficult... :)

I like this idea. Everyone should be paying in ones. Shouldn't be too hard to split it up evenly.
Just decide the payouts with everyone when we get a final head count.

As long as we have free crawls, I don't mind entry fees to some competitions. $5 should be managable by anyone crazy enough to be in this hobby :)

I like the idea of free crawls to for now at least. Especially with the price of gas going up and most of these meets are a good bit away for most people...
What about one stickied thread in the comp area that would grow and include the Comp winners for each event with a pic of the winners rig and all the information for that event (ie - location, date, total number of entrents for the event, specs of their rig, scores for each run, and total score)
and with Silas taking hundreds of photos he will probably catch a good action shot of the winners rig or the driver falling on their A$$ (like me at bullhole) to post with it also....
It's just a thought. Kind of a special recognition thing for the winner with no money out of pocket...

x2 on all that. Good idea.:thumb:
i like the idea of free crawls but having a small amount of $$$ on the line just seems to make it more interesting.........it will make you work harder to win:thumb:
since it seems like we are having a crawl atleast once a week maybe the last meet of the month should be a paid comp with winner takes all.....a $2 buy-in is cheap but it will keep it interesting and fun:thumb:

I know im new here and probably dont have any say so.. so please dont flame me here
I like the idea of the Money Comps. But there is a few thing to take into consideration.
1. it will make it more competitive-and will draw more folks
2. keep the entry fees low and the payouts low so there is not any rumbling among the group becuse someone was a sore looser that day or that event(Money Makes alot of people do stupid things)
3. Maybe have a Money event once a month or so and the rest be free crawls
4. Judging/Scoring would/should be done by a Non-Competitor that day or some non bias party (When its for fun people dont really care/ when its for Money..again people get stupid) so there is no accusation of favorite etc..
Now with all that said..In reality for me I dont care..ask some of the guys that know me im one Competitive S.O.B. Ill run for money or for fun it doesnt matter to me.. if I win .. thats Great.. and I will talk more crap than you know (for fun of course) If I loose.. ill try harder the next time Right now the Rc World is my sole Hobby outside of taking care of my wife and Kids and Work..
Plus I like the crawling thing because coming from a racing back ground growing up as a kid..In racing there is always someone else to blame..ohh he hit me or ohh he cut me off etc etc... In crawling its all you and your rig.
Sorry for the ramble.. just my .02
Look forward to meeting all of you this weekend

Yep Kinda Like me starting 3 laps down on the road course..remember that?:)
I dont think no one has anything to worry about with my stinking crawling ablity.. Go fast I do and do well.. Getting technical over rocks is a new thing for me..

Same thing applies - jam the throttle and steer for the finish line. Then again I have stripped two spur gears already, so maybe you shouldn't listen to me.

good idea........since im more then likely going to be judging, ill make the last run for fun just to see how i do:thumb:

Could also throw in a second judge so that any claims of bias or error can have a check system against them. It is possible for a back-up to go uncounted or maybe an extra tick get marked down. With more than one person a checks and balance is put into place which would virtually eliminate any claim someone has that it was missed or, unfortunately should be said, someone claiming it was done out of spite or favortism. That is just my .02 and if/when I finally get a crawler and if the pay event is like once a month I think springing even $5 is do-able.

re second judge;
All courses should be judged by two, one calling, one scribing.

I want to clarify that I am not knocking Jon's judging IN ANY WAY!!! I just know that it is possible for mistakes to be made and when money get's thrown into the mix, well, people are going to be more upset over those errors. It would be very hard for 2 people to make the same mistake though so that would help eliminate any discussions of, "He marked me for an extra back-up." etc.
On that note, Jon gave me the rule sheets and I am reading through them and trying to commit them to memory so that I can help out as needed as either a second judge for paying comps or to be the judge for the free runs so Jon can compete.

Really, I could have sworn I thought it was just the J, the O, and the N.
everyone can just call me DDS for short:thumb:
but for the 2nd judge would be nice, plus we need to figure out if people would like for me call out cleared gates, back-ups, missed gates, ect's or just stay quit while they do their run....cause if its me i would not like to hear someone calling out everything i am doing, it will just distract me....i might just put this to a poll

hey
The rules actually state that one person calls out the penalty and another person records it. That way a reverse is not missed when a judge is making notes.
You could bring an I-pod.

I should be able to make the next comp run also and I will have the rules memorized so DDS and I can work together in some fashion. Whether it be the 1 person calls, 1 person talleys system or each of us tallies and compares, who knows.

Dude that would be great.... I think one person tallys and the other calls and times! I think that will work out best!
