I like the width of the HR MOA axles, but it is obvious that I do not drive with enough care for the stainless steel shafts.

Since there are no stronger shafts/cvds/xvds available for the HRs I will cut down some Berg inners to fit the HR axles.

I will make the shafts 1 mm longer then the stock HR ones, this should improve strength at full turn as well as eliminate the need for the oring spacers.

I just have to find some extra Berg inners.

Step 1

I cut extended the 2.5 mm round (inside) to have a total length of 14 mm.

I cut the flats tonight on one long shaft. I made them 6.35 mm long, because that is the tooling I had. Clamping the shaft was a pain, but the end result looks great, I will have a short side made tomorrow and then I will try to break them.

I will use Traxxas fibre washer to shim the shafts out 1mm so they seat deeper into the AX10 stubs.

The middle shaft is the one I modified.

I found the first problem, the nipple that goes into the spool is not perfectly round because I did not have a pointed cutter, so I had used a flat cutter.

I will have to dig for my other tooling for my lathe. The nipple should be a transition filt, but it is a interference fit. I will see if I can polish the part, but I will likely have to mount it and cut another pass.

I made some interesting progress tonight. Spacing out 1mm is too much it means that the cross pin is out past the kingpins. But, spacing out 0.5 aligns them perfectly and I have never had the axles turn this smoothly at full turn. I am sure the 0.5 spacing to the inside is one of the reasons that I have broke so many shafts.

But, I still had stainless shafts in the back, and even with light practicing, I destroyed a set tonight again. The short shaft broke right outside the spool, I have never broken on there, and the long shaft is twisted beyond useability.

I drove my 2.2 hard for 3 packs and did not snap a shaft. I will look inside the front axle tomorow, to see if I at least twisted something.

Having the truck be under 10" front and 9.75" including tires has really opened up a bunch of easier lines on my course. So far I really like the narrower wetup.
