i just started getting into rc crawling when i got ahold of a ax10 for dirt cheap. its pretty much stock except for a few mods. i was wanting to do a few comp but im on a budget . i been do upgrades when i can. heres what i have so far. i weighted my wheels and added memory foam and vented the tires. i put bent links front also. and i just got integy coilover shocks and their driveshafts. i want to get a dig trans but all i have right now is a 2 channel controler. any help would be appreciated . here are a few pics of mine.

Hey
The first thing you want to do is very easy and cheap. Limit the up and down travel of those shocks by .25" each way.
Depending on the motor, a sliper clutch is a good idea.
A High power servo and external BEC are a must.
Maybe a ESC, not sure what is in it.
Other then that drive it.

If you decide to go dig... T1E has the VP Hurtz dig unit.... best dig unit on the market...
But since your staying where you're at for now, I'll end the sales pitch. :)
Like Rene said, limit the shocks...
How about listing a the specs on this rig... ESC, servo, motor, and so on... :)

4-link on the rear at least to get rid of most of the torque twist. Then practice alot. After a while you will find out what needs upgrading. Tires would be my next upgrade.

ok thanks guys, ill try to get the specs tonight on the electronics, first what do you mean limit the shock travel to .25 inch , do you mean .25 up and down is all you need? see i thought the more articulation the better right? and what do i need to 4 link the rear? i thnk i saw four link plates for the rear.

You can also you a template to make your own 4-link plate.115 Here's a file you can use. Just print it out on 8.5
x 11 and you have a pattern with hole location and correct size! Hope this helps!

Yeah you want to limit it .25 inches, not limit it "to" .25". If you have 1.75 inches of travel, stick some fuel tube on the shock shaft that is 1/4 inch long to stop the shock before fully compressing this would go on the out side of the shock body.
Articulation is good, but too much is very bad. You will get bound up all the time, get stuck in holes a lot, and just plain out over flex everything.
I run 3.5 inch shocks, the articulatioin is some what limited, especially compaired to a stock length AX10 shock.

hey
the fuel tube works fine to limit the travel.
I prefer to go to homedepot and buy the white platic spacers. That way you are certain the are all the same length.

Delrin plastic or aluminum will work. or you can buy them already made at TCScrawlers.com for less than 20 bucks I think.

When I ran my ax10.. I used it in the rear only... but that was just to aid in the torque twist.

No worries there... bring it and have fun!!! there is another comp coming up the 26th, and check the calendar... several more.
You don't have to enter the Fall Series to compete... so you have 6 comps there between now and Jan. to play with too.

I would look into getting a crawler freindly ESC at some point... Novak Rooser Crawler, Castle Creations MambaMax/Sidewinder, Teiken FXR are all great ESCs with great control and drag brake....
Your servo will work for now, but you will want to upgrade it... When you can mustard up a 100 bucks, get you something like the HiTech 7955TG... great servo, but gets you up around the 300 oz mark, which will make a huge difference.
Radio would be another good upgrade.... DX3r is the tops in my book... 3 position 3rd channel (DX3S only has a 2 I think) or you can get a used DX3 and mod the 3rd channel switch to a 3 position. When you go dig, this will get you a locked, burn, freewheel. Also, I hear there might be a front/rear dig unit for the AX10 coming soon :) you will need another servo for this though...
Just throwing out some ideas for the electroncs...

well i checked around some more and on place said it would be a month til they had theirs back in stock. so im thinkin of just ordering the upgraded trans from axial. unless someone on here had another factory trans they would like to sell.
