I posted in another thread that I had cancled my order for My VF dig units (2) from VF Inavations in light of the recent issues that some were having with them, and 2 we were so far down the receiving line I had desided to go a different rought and make an attempt at a homemade dig unit. But after looking at it further I feel that the homemade style is going to cause our trucks to hang up on stuff we clear now with no problems. I'm just not real fond of having that much stuff on my Driveshaft. Although it works when and if it desides to engage. This is a good consept but theres just to many things that can fail with this set up and in a comp that could be real bad. I give all the props to the fellas here that have done the homemade digs. They are smart guys and will get its issues figured out I'm sure.

I just happened to be at TCS yesterday and saw that they have the VF Digs in stock and after much debate I deside to place an order for 2 Digs from them seeing that I would not have to wait for them another 3-4 weeks. I should have them by the first part of next week, so we'll see what kind of issues if any they have. And if they do I'll fix it. This may be the biggest mistake of my RC life but I'm going to give it a shot just to see. It just seem like a better concept to have it on the tranny where its out of the way and not the driveshaft getting hung up on rocks/roots ect...

Heres the link: Page 3 at the bottom. they have at least 10 in stock now I just checked before posting the link.

I do have to say that Brock at VF was very resposive, and helpful with my issues I experienced... I had exchanged several emails with him, as he included photos and well written instructions on the product.

Also he is pre-sanding my new replacement parts, so I must say he is willing to right any wrongs people feel they have...just has to be handled well.

I just got mine set-up...pretty simple. The biggest headache was setting end points on radio. The instructions here http://visionaryfabrication.com/sales/digbuild.htm
is what i went off of. So far so good...I see some stripped servo horns here in the near future.

Sorry forgot about this...

The photos he gave where just reference to the angle of the drive shaft.

He stated you may have to lengthing the uppers to get the pinion angle higher. This could bring your wheel base in a bit but will get the pinion more pointed upwards.

This diagram shows you a little of what angle you may need to look at...

This would help a great deal. Pusshing the pivit axis of the axle back at the top straightens the line.

Also sanding the output shaft, which he is doing for me, helps it fit a bit better and less binding.

Polishing and sanding the brass pin found in the tranny half to the left is what needs to be smoothed out so that binding doesn't take place.

Make sure this cog is square on the output shaft. If not you will have wobble and it won't seat correctly when locked in drive.

Outside of that... once its smooth shifting, make sure your end points are set correctly with the servo and your good to go.

Make sure it shifts smooth before adjusting the servo or you will burn it up.

Once I get the parts in, I will take photos of them so all can see what he had to do to get it to work smooth...

Mine will be here from CKRC this Friday along with about $600 worth of stuff to build my new 2.2. I havent been on here in a while due to vacation, but I did sell my TCS Edge to one of my QCB brethren.

So now its time to build a new one.. Hoep to have it up and running very soon once everything gets here. I think im going to try to do a build thread if time permits. I will include the VF Dig install for pics to help everyone out.

Thanks
Steve

Well both my Dig units arrived just as expected. I started putting one of them in and realized that the servo's I have for them are the wrong size. They want fit the mount they send with the Dig unit. So I ordered the right ones from Antique Barn. Got with Waggy and he hooked me up with what I needed. So if they get here by Friday I'll have Dig by the weekend. The servo's are Hitech HS225MG's They are call a mini servo not a micro. The Micro's we tried were to small, and standard servo's are to big. The HS225MG's put out about 70 oz of torq in a mini size servo, so they should have enough power to take care of the job. All my part seem to move freely with no binding to speak of. I hope it all works like it should. It seem to work perfect with my hands.

What kind of servo did you guys use for your Dig set up.

I got a jr mini 48oz of torque and works good...as long as everything is easy to move thats plenty of torque. take your time setting end points on dig. I put the servo on and the servo horn and did not attach to the engaging link until I was close. Then attached the link and dailed in after i was real close to where it needed to be. Hope that helps and you have no issues setting it up.

Thanks for the advice on setting up the servo. I had thought about doing it that way from the start so I would not mess up the servo. everything seems to move ok.

Yeah... I think that 90% of all the complaints is how they handled business... not the product itself.
