If you need a cheap alternative for replacing the driveshafts, the Traxxas part number 1951 is what you should get.
I picked up 2 driveshafts… for 6 bucks!!! They are a little shorter, but seem to work. They even seem to be made from a little harder plastic!

Shorter? I was thinking that the Axial ones were too short as is.

by a 1/4 inch.. but no matter how I twist up my rig... i can't get the shaft to get near its edge... so I think they are good.

Also check out Traxxas #1953. Thats 6 complete shafts (plastic only). I got mine for 9 bucks.

Yeah.... they break pretty easy right at the yoke.

And a set of these TRX shafts are cheaper than the Axial drive shaft rings they sell.
I built my truck out of the box with the TRX shafts and I am still on the same set frt and rr. I've got bent rear links to so the rear shaft gets slammed against rocks a lot (especaillay today at HRL). Still no problems with them so far
However the new MIP shafts may see there way into my AX. But not until I run through these and another set of spare TRX shafts

Yep, the shafts are for a Traxxas Stampede. They're way stronger than stock & eliminate any need for the rings.
Unfortunately, I have such nasty rear steer right now, that I'm popping my rear shaft apart occaisionally on climbs.

You running rear stear or something that loose?

I think I have it fixed. When I'd start to climb, the rear was torquing up to the left something aweful. I've been playing with setup & shocks all night. I think I may be on to something. :jester:

i got some torque stear like that... it seems inboarding the links, and outbarding the shocks, keeps wheel lift from happening, but doesn't really fix the torque steer...

I've got mine to quit lifting, but I still have a lot of body roll. I don't think there's a fix for all the torque steer, not with us running the shock springs as soft as we are. I honestly don't notice it when I'm crawling, it's much more noticable horseing around the living room on carpet.

yeah.... I will have to get some photos...
One thing too all the hype about torque steer, I don't think people realize that when you lift a tire, its not a bad thing, I never lift a tire when actually out there on the rocks, like you said, horsing around full throttle full reverse... and it just lifts front and rear tires.
The real issue is when you get some of the weight on the rear, like in a semi verticle stance, then the wheel that typically lifts wants to twist back, thus causing a sort of rear steer. Almost like it needs a rear track bar. I got some Ideas i am going to play with, see if I can stop it some how... :)

I'll be looking forward to the conclusion of your testing. It would be really nice to figure out the "torque steer" problem. Do other TVP rigs other than the AX10 experience the same problem? How about tubers? Or is it solely a function of the 3 or 4 link suspension and has nothing to do with the chassis?

I think it has something to do with a poor designed triangulation for the upper and lower links...

Thats what I think the main issue is. The upper links are fine, the lower links aren't triangulated enough.

Yeah... my rig climbs nice now since I did this... testing was at bullhole... very nice!!
I let KvilleKrawler drive ther rig...and he loved it... sure a few others will be switching soon... donate 5 bucks to the site to get spy photos of the true 4 link!
