OK guys I have decided I am going to build me another 2.2 comp style rig. I plan to use AX-10 running gear but would like to get a few of you guys opinions as I have never had an AX-10 before as all of my previous crawlers were TLT based. My first question is why should I buy a kit? I just plan to use the axles and tranny on my rig as I am going with different wheels, tires, and chassis along with different links. Is there something else in the kit that I am going to need that I don't know about? Here is what I have in mind so far for my build.....

AX-10 axles
RCP steering knuckles
RCP straight axle adapters
RCP Ax10 Aluminum Servo Plates With link Mounts
AX-10 tranny
VF Slingshot Chassis w/derlin links
Traxxas driveshafts/yolks
MSD wheels w/ losi Rock Claws or something ???
Losi Grappler body

With the above items mentioned I would like to hear you guys opinions as to why I need the entire kit or if I should just buy all of the parts seperate since I am not going to build it with many stock parts.

Please also feel free to add and or take away from my list as I said before I not that familiar with the Axial running gear.

I would say with how little you are using from the kit, you might be able to find everything on ebay chop shops for real cheap, or even if you get the kit, then just part out the rest on ebay to try and recoup some cash.

Me personally... I say run the kit and build off of that and your driving skills.

I am slowly replacing parts... I found that the kit out the box, with a few custom mods, worked best so far... no need to throw money at it until your sure its going to improve what you want... but thats my 2 cents on it. :)

I agree with Silas. I can approve all your aftermarket parts for use, and the chassis plates are not a bad idea, but my the time you get axles, tranny, hubs, etc - the price will be close to that of a kit. It's not a bad way to get going. MSD wheels - if you want to spend the cash on them it's up to you. They sure are pretty, and narrow - (i'm probly going to piss some people off) but I can't really see a difference between them and the pro-line six shooters. I would love to have a set, but I'm not going to pay for them. And since this about opnion, I think the losi claws are by far and away the best tires. Hammers are right up there too, but I prefer the claws, I think they're better on climbs. You thinking about running digs?

I say get Ax-axles and tranny, and build from there. You know what you are getting into AGAIN Harold. You know about suspension and what works. Since your going to use a after market chassis axial links are to long for most. The only other thing I can think of i steering.

and thats my .02

Yeah that is what I was thinking as well. I know that I am not going to use the stock chassis, shocks, suspension links, body, tires, and or wheels. Also most online vendors are out of stock on the kits but have axles and tranny on the shelf. I know it won't be as :thatwaseasy: but I think I will be happier in the end.

Hey Harold, My .02 is Just to run the stock Axial either kit or rtr. I got a chance to see them first hand today, and boy howdy, they spanked tlt. Right out of the box they rock.
I'd personally just run the stock chassis and shafts, save that little bit of money, and buy the other upgrades and your prefered rims and tires( losi's) and seriously kick some heiny.
Just my .02, but seriously, I see nothing wrong with the stock chassis.

If you've got the experience then piece it together IMO.

There is at least one thread on RCC with all the part numbers you would need to order just the components you want to use.

The kit was nice for a newb like me, but now I've got a pile of wheels, tires, links, knuckles, a chassis/skid, a body and other parts that will probably never get used.

Plus the stock Rock Lizards fawking stink.:finger1:

you need shorter links than stock for your you chassis,if your doing what i think. I have the measurements you may need for a 12.5" wheel base...

Yea man, all that sounds good, you can find most of that stuff on e-bay, look around and compare the prices of the same product\different seller.More selection of stuff than the so-far-away hobby shop. The money you spend on gas;you pay in shipping. That's where i get all my stuff. They also have kool links too.
