I finally started working on the parts pile yesterday. I got the axles completely disassembled so I could remove the anodizing and shave a little off the edges of the gearboxes.
Thanks Chris for the VP wheels on Sunday. They're going to make a nice addition to the new rig. :thumb:

Did a little work last night and got the links built but ran out of Revo ends so I'll be hitting the local hobby shop tomorrow to get some supplies.
I had planned to run a cheap set of Integy 35t motors but I've decided to take a little advice from friends and sell those and get a set of 35t Broods from EddieO. These should offer a nice combination of wheel speed and torque I'll need to make this a comp ready rig.
Cleaned up all the gears to have them drilled and to put in the Mann 2nd and 3rds. Im glad I did check them out before installing them back in the case. These axles must have seen a little carnage from a broken gear before cause there are some chips and gouges in the big gears. I've got a set ordered but it looks they're back ordered so I'll be checking around for some replacements asap. I'll keep these as spares if I ever need them.
Put together the Traxxas shocks last night and they're nice and smooth with the Mini-T springs.
Lastly I mocked up the Mamba Micros and BEC on the T1E skid and it looks like I'll have a good bit of space left on the rear extension for the Futaba RX.
Pondering using a BigRon battery tray on the front axle and removing the front extension from the T1E skid. I think it will move a little more weight forward for me.
I'll get a few pics up tomorrow of the progress

Mann 2nd and 3rd gears showed up today along with some Boss Claws and a pair of DH2s that I got from Greg (86Jeep). The DH wheels have aluminum weights and a set of the stabilizer rings added. Trying to get the Claws mounted and they're giving me a fit. These must be the hardest crawler tires I've mounted. 3 attempts on 1 tire and still not locking onto the rear bead. Man these things are frustrating ! ! !

Losi foams fresh out of the pack. Im glad Im not using these but I did use Andee's hairdryer to fluff them up a little.

Electronics wired and installed on lower chassis
2 Micro Mambas and BEC fit rather nicely and all within the 2 lower cross braces. Futaba RX will have the rear skid extension to be mounted on.

The last few pieces to my puzzle arrived today from Clover Custom Designs (66Bronco) the Front tubes, steering and drilled gears were just delivered and the UPS man brought my Futaba 4PL. Now if I really wanted I guess I could work all night on assembly and make the drive to ECC tomorrow then run untested on Saturday morning , but I'll think I'll wait till next year

Totally RTR now ! ! ! The shocks are mounted differently now. I was using the Traxxas mounts and they limited the movement at the cap so they're in fuel line now. I did run a few packs thru it out back on my rocks today and I can say it is more stable pulling the same lines versus my last Berg. Thanks to T1E (Rockshow) and Clover Custom Design (66Bronco) for some great crawler hardware :thumb:

I could remove the knuckle weights and get it under 5lbs but I dont think it would crawl very well with no weight on the front

Rig looks nice Eric!!!! What type of knuckle weights you running?
Cycleeric
04-22-2011, 01:05 PM
The knuckle weights are from Erik Dlux on RCC. I like them so far, they hold great and put the weight right on the axle centerline without weighing down the wheel so the motor sees less load. They're very easy to adjusts the weight too
Shocker
04-22-2011, 01:51 PM
I have thought about cutting the actually weights in half to be able run all the weight below the axleline.
What kind of driver are you using to put the wheels on Eric? Now that I have slw's in front too, the driver I have been using is very very very snug.
What size wheel are you running in the rear w/ the BC's?? .7's??
That last picture you posted of your truck is the best one. :thumb: Excluding the "on the rocks" shots.
Cycleeric
04-22-2011, 02:51 PM
Im gonna keep them round so there's more total weight to the rings
I've got an old nut driver that I used a grinder on to thin it down a bit
The rears are .7" with the Boss Claws
Shocker

Speaking of motors Eric, how do you like those Br00ds so far??

The driver I like best for that task is the RC-One driver by Imex.

Tonight I shortened the tierod a little to bring the toe in just a touch and did some checking over the whole rig so it's ready to go for Monday's practice and I found some not so good stuff happening. I've ran about 5 or 6 pack thru this new rig and the short side rear axle is bent. Yes I should took the advise I was given and gotten the RC Axlemaster but I went with the CKRC shafts so I'll be sending them an email tonight about the problem and see if they'll replace at least the short side for me. Im gonna run it the way it is and deal with the wobble for now.

Been a long time since I updated this thread but I received a nice package from Holmes Hobbies last week and Andy was kind enough to uncase both Holmes ESCs, shrink them and wire them to the Team Edition 16t Motors. I cant wait to get a few packs thru them before Turkey Crawl in a couple weeks.
Thanks Andy for a clean install and setting them up for me. I'll be mounting them on the skid tonight so I can run them this weekend.
