Default 2010 Rules clarifications

There are a couple of clarifications going on in the rules committee right now.

1. There is a question about body on/off during tech........

Current rule:

6.4 - Wheelbase: is measured from center of axle nut to center of axle nut. The vehicle should be set down on a flat surface by the driver. The front wheel on the side that is being checked, must be pointing straight forward. At that time, the driver will then cycle the suspension through it's complete extension and compression range while the judge measures the vehicle's maximum wheelbase. At any point the vehicle's wheelbase cannot extend beyond the maximum limit of it’s class. All the above procedures must be duplicated on the opposite side. Note: If the vehicles wheelbase is affected by radio control it must be cycled or activated during tech inspection.

Proposed Change:

6.4 - Wheelbase: is measured from center of axle nut to center of axle nut. the vehicle should be set down on a flat surface by the driver. The front wheel on the side that is being checked, must be pointing straight forward. At that time, the driver will then cycle the suspension through it's complete extension and compression range while the judge measures the vehicle's maximum wheelbase. At any point the vehicle's wheelbase cannot extend beyond the maximum limit of it’s class. All the above procedures must be duplicated on the opposite side.

Note: All vehicles will be teched in the same ready to run condition or set up as which the vehicle will be ran on the course. If the vehicle wheelbase is affected by radio control it must be cycled or activated during tech inspection.

2. There is also a change coming to the rule about travelling through a gate backwards. We are working on changing the rule so that intent is taken out. The potential change will involve a 10 pt penalty and truck reposition to last cleared gate. No more DQ for travelling through a gate the wrong direction, but there is no way for it to benefit you either. I will post once this comes up for a vote.

CURRENT
o 7.2.4 - The first time through any un-cleared gate must be in the intended direction and in the correct sequence
of the course layout until that gate is cleared.

o 7.2.5 - You cannot attempt any un-cleared gates out of sequence. If you intentionally enter an un-cleared gate
out of sequence you will receive a DNF for that course.

PROPOSED
1.12 - Course Direction (10 pts) Gates must be cleared in their intended direction, and sequence. The first time through any uncleared gate must be in the intended direction and in the correct sequence of the course layout until that gate is cleared. Any violation will result in a 10 pt penalty, and the vehicle is then moved back by the driver to the previously cleared gate with the rear axle aligned to that gate. If the vehicle cannot be aligned to the gate due to course design, the judge will reposition the vehicle to the next stable location after the cleared gate. This location will be used for all drivers. Once the gate is cleared it can be traveled in any sequence or direction.

I think this will be much easier to judge and the way it should have been all along.

Rules update will be released in the next day or so. I will post the link when that occurs. We will be following the latest 2010 rules for the next qualifying series comp, as well as the Anderson R/C Sportsman class comps, so make sure your rigs are ready to tech at the 12.5" max wheelbase because we will be checking it closely.

How will this be checked? Does the rig have to fully compress both sides or just one?

We will be setting the rig on a flat spot and you will be fully compressing it straight down while we check the wheelbase. If the wheelbase goes past 12.5" at any point you wil not pass.

Please make sure you are legal before tech.

We will be checking it with a 12.5" wheelbase jig, not a tape measure.

Does the jig lock front or rear and then measure of the oppsite side?

No, it does not lock anything. It just measures at the set distance.
